Kocuria Species: Important Emerging Pathogens in Pediatric Patients

نویسندگان

چکیده

Kocuria spp., are frequently documented members of the human microbiota and were formerly thought to be opportunistic bacteria, initiating infection only in immunocompromised patients. This study aimed determine prevalence species samples from Iraqi pediatric patients, addition their sensitivity pattern. Bacterial identification was performed using a VITEK 2 device, Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method used antibiotic susceptibility. Of 261 positive cultures, we found isolates 7 cases (2.68%). The mean age patients 5.47 years, ranging 4 months 10 years; there 3 males females. All had either urinary tract disease or symptomatic bacteremia. Vitek-2 gram-positive (GP) card revealed presence kristinae five cases, K. rhizophila one case, rosea case. Susceptibility amikacin, gentamicin ceftazidime demonstrated 100% resistance. In conclusion, species, which associated with serious clinical manifestations an emerging health issue further attention should taken for appropriate management treatment as they intrinsically multi-drug resistant.

Emerging Bacterial Infection: Identification and Clinical Significance of Kocuria Species

Recently there have been reports of gram-positive cocci which are morphologically similar to both Staphylococci and the Micrococci. These bacteria have been identified as Kocuria species with the help of automated identification system and other molecular methods including 16S rRNA (ribosomal ribonucleic acid) evaluation. Kocuria belongs to the family Micrococcaceae which also includes Staphylo...

Kocuria kristinae: a true pathogen in pediatric patients.

BACKGROUND Kocuria kristinae is a Gram-positive microorganism, which has rarely been reported as a pathogen that causes infection in humans. Recently, a few studies had concluded that this pathogen can indeed cause infection in immunocompromised hosts. However, the number of reports on K. kristinae infection in pediatric patients is still relatively limited. METHODS Clinical data on pediatric...

Kocuria rhizophila adds to the emerging spectrum of micrococcal species involved in human infections.

We describe the first case of a Kocuria rhizophila infection in a boy with methylmalonic aciduria. A single clone was isolated from blood samples drawn through a port system and from peripheral veins during septic episodes within a 2-year period. K. rhizophila expands the emerging number of "micrococci" considered to be etiologically relevant.

Pediatric Catheters Infectivity and Identification of Candida Species Isolated from Hospitalized Patients in Mashhad Pediatric Hospital

Background and purpose: Invasive candidiasis in infants has high mortality rate and is often associated with colonization on medical devices such as catheters. Candida colonization is considered as a predisposing factor for Candida related infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the rate of catheters infectivity by Candida species. Materials and methods: In this descriptive cross-sect...

Why Candida Species have Emerged as Important Nosocomial Pathogens?

Health care associated infection (HCAI) has a propensity to thwart and decelerate the every effort of clinician taken towards patient care. In recent years HCAIs due to Candida spp. are increasing at an alarming rate. Candida spp. is now considered as the third or fourth most common cause of HCAIs in the United States, out numbering all Gram negative bacilli. Over the past few decades, the spec...
